It is Literacy Month! This month our school system is promoting literacy through out the community. We have several events planned for our families. Last night, the district literacy team was recognized at the City Council Meeting. Mayor Peter Banks proclaimed January 2020 as Barnesville-Lamar County Literacy Month. Please stay tuned for events this month. We hope all of you can join us in celebrating literacy.

arrowsNotice of Property Tax Increase
The Lamar County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 6.22 percent. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at Lamar County Board of Education Central Office, located at 100 Victory Lane, Barnesville GA, 30204, on August 20th, 2019 at 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase will be held at the same location aforementioned on August 27th, 2019 at 5:30 PM. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 17.077 mills, an increase of .727 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 16.351 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of 100,000 is approximately $27.59 increase and the proposed tax increases for non-homestead property with a fair market value of 300,000 is approximately $87.12.
