A Few Words...
Lamar County Schools encourages the use
of technology in the classroom and has slowly begun to bring iPads into
the district. Currently, most of those iPads are being used by
administrators and learning support specialists, but we realize that
teachers and other staff may also wish to use a personal iPad at work.
Here are a few guidelines:
- The technology department is happy to
assist you in setting up your email and helping you get logged into the
wireless network, however we are not, at this time, logging iPads
directly onto the local intranet, so you will not be able to use the
shared drives or networked printers with your iPad.
- When using the local wireless network,
you will be subject to the Web filtering that you see on your desktop
machine. This is, of course, only while here at work. At home or on
another network, you may not be filtered.
- It is possible to project from your
iPad to your projector, however the schools will individually be
responsible for purchasing the equipment to make that possible. Please
request quotes through our usual process.
- Yes, you will have trouble with Web
pages that use Flash. You can try one of the browsers that purports to
allow Java...these will not view all sites but may help you with the one
you are having trouble with. Two of the better ones are Photon Flash and SkyFire; neither is free. Flash is a dying format, so this problem will fix itself.
