School Reopening Plans

Fall 2020

Lamar County Schools have continuously monitored federal, state, and local guidance regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Our plans have been developed after careful review and consideration of guidelines established by the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Department of Public Health, Governor’s Office, Center for Disease Control (CDC), local health officials, and district leadership; we also considered plans developed by other school systems. In addition, parent and employee feedback was an important factor in planning for our reopening, and we are grateful for the survey responses. Although we have carefully developed our district plans, with continued guidance from the individuals and departments previously listed, these plans will evolve over time. This is certainly a “work in progress”.

Learning Options:

As we establish and continue to develop our instructional options, it is important for us to have a plan that takes into consideration the unique challenges our community faces. Each family will have two options:

1.     Face-to-Face/On-campus: Traditional setting with new health and safety protocols in place (see reopening plan).

2.     Remote Learning: Off Campus. Daily instruction will directly follow each child’s normal on-campus course load.

Parents who would like to begin the school year “Remotely” must register by WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5th. The remote learning instructional model will include plans for families with/without internet access. Parents choosing the REMOTE model must commit to remain with their choice through Friday, August 28. Anyone wishing to change models must declare by Wednesday of the previous week, and they will be held to a minimum of a 2-week commitment.

ALL students (face-to-face AND remote learners) will be assigned a Lamar County teacher and daily schedule.

Our school system is investing considerable time, funding, and resources into incorporating all instructional materials in Google Suite. Curriculum documents, videos, links, materials, and other resources will be available online and will be used for daily instruction for face-to-face and for remote learners. Live video streaming will

be used where applicable. Google classroom sessions for each content area will be created with the

expectation that students learning remotely will log in and actively participate in scheduled sessions.

Teachers will facilitate Google Classroom sessions via Google Meet. Every Lamar County Schools student has
