Good Evening Lamar Families,

We miss our students. As we explore this unchartered territory, we still hope they are able to learn from home. Students were sent home with a 5-day packet last week. We hope that you are encouraging learning at home. Your child’s teachers will be in contact by Wednesday of next week to check on your progress and to answer any questions you may have.

Our Learning Support Specialists have been working tirelessly to provide resources for you and your children while we await the opening of our schools again. We have provided our principals with a vast amount of resources related to learning at home. The intention is not to replace the experience a student would have in his or her classroom, but to support them with continued learning while away from the school. We hope the activities and resources the district has organized will help our students while they await the opening of our schools.

Get Georgia Reading is providing access to thousands of books. Get Georgia Reading and Renaissance are partnering to provide readers free, anytime/anywhere access to digital books and news with myON. Unlimited, 24/7 access makes it easy for students to continue reading and learning at home. Students can read online using any Internet-enabled device, or read offline with free mobile apps. • The myON library includes more than 6,400 enhanced digital books, with titles for a wide range of reading levels and in diverse genres, including fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novels. • myON News provides five age-appropriate articles, Monday through Friday, on US and world events, arts and entertainment, sports, science, and technology. This is a unique opportunity we must take advantage of.

GPB.org has resources for your child by grade level. This week they have lessons for prek-5. Grades 6-12 will be added soon. These are great resources for you to use until your child is back in front of their teacher. You can also sign up for the daily e-newsletter on this site. It provides resources for home education at this time.

If you do not have access to internet, please contact me by email @ ascandre@lamar.k12.ga.us and we will provide paper copies to your child within the week.

We encourage all students to read nightly for at least 20 minutes. Respond to what you have read by writing a summary of what you have read and sharing with an adult.

Please stay in contact with the school by checking your child’s school Facebook page and the district Facebook page.
