Exceptional Student Education
The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA'04) is a federal law that requires that school districts seek out, identify and provide special education services to students with disabilities.
The U.S. Congress has stated that a "disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes the right of individuals to participate in or contribute to society. Improving educational results for children with disabilities is an essential element of our national policy of ensuring equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living and self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities."
The Lamar County Public Schools is committed to the success of all students and takes seriously its mandate to provide a "free and appropriate public education" (FAPE) to students with disabilities.
Facilitated Individualized Education Program (FIEP)
IEP Team Meeting Facilitation is an optional process, not required by the IDEA that a school districts may provide to parents and schools. A facilitated IEP Team meeting is the same as any other IEP Team meeting, except that a facilitator joins the meeting.
